Stopping

It’s important to make sure others can see you easily (e.g. on top of a rise in the piste). Always stop at the edge of the piste so that others can easily pass you and your group. It’s best to stop at a place where you can easily get going again – such as the end of a flat stretch.

Don’t stop under a chairlift, as there is a risk of falling objects. Similarly, due to the loud noise, you shouldn’t stop next to an operating snow cannon. Spraying someone who’s stopped with snow from behind could cause an avoidable collision if you lose control. Stop more often when visibility is poor.

Walking uphill/downhill

No one expects to see people walking up the piste, so it’s common for them to go unnoticed until it’s too late. This makes it all the more important for people walking uphill or downhill to keep to the edge of the piste and only cross in places where visibility is good.
