Be ready, both mentally and physically
Fitness
Skiing and snowboarding are physically demanding. Whether you’re on skis or a board – stamina, strength and coordination, as well as stability and flexibility, are essential to cope with the physical demands of the sport. Training stamina, leg and core strength and flexibility before and during the season reduces your accident risk.
Warming up
Warming up gets your circulation going. It also improves coordination and concentration and promotes social interaction. A good warm-up prepares your muscles, joints and mind for skiing and snowboarding. Doing a warm-up in the morning and after a lengthy break is especially advisable. Warming up in a fun way has a beneficial effect on the group dynamic.
Running in
Easy does it on your first run. Get to know the piste, familiarise yourself with the snow conditions and gauge what shape you’re in.
Visualising
It’s worth going through the movement pattern in your head before hitting the slopes or attempting a trick in the terrain park. Where are the tricky spots? What are your strengths? Do you meet the necessary requirements? Keeping your mental “pre-run” in mind is the perfect preparation for the challenge you’ve set yourself.
Rituals
Rituals help you feel safe and make you more attentive. Group rituals strengthen team spirit and make lessons more engaging. Familiar rituals help you focus on the run ahead.
